Accelerating the transition to zero-emission mobility through hydrogen innovation and real-world application
A European project to decarbonize industrial towing with hydrogen-powered retrofit tractors. ARCO Technologies develops the green hydrogen production and refueling infrastructure.
Hydrogen-powered tractor for industry,
airport and port towing.
The H2TowTractor project is a European initiative aimed at decarbonizing logistics operations through hydrogen-powered retrofitting. Focused on industrial, airport, and port towing vehicles, the project demonstrates how existing combustion-based tractors can be converted to zero-emission systems using green hydrogen. Through the development of a mobile hydrogen refueling station and the integration of solar power, H2TowTractor offers a scalable, real-world solution for sustainable mobility. Supported by EIT Urban Mobility, the project promotes innovation in urban logistics and paves the way for future-ready energy infrastructure.
Discover the key components that make the H2TowTractor project possible: from hydrogen-powered retrofit technology to solar-integrated refueling systems
ATA developed a retrofit kit that converts existing industrial tow tractors from combustion to hydrogen propulsion. The first prototype is being tested at CAAB Bologna.
ARCO Technologies provides the green hydrogen production system and mobile HRS (Hydrogen Refueling Station), integrated with a photovoltaic plant.
The system is powered by CAAB’s existing photovoltaic plant, ensuring a zero-emission energy cycle and showcasing the feasibility of autonomous hydrogen refueling.
