High-Performance Fuel Cell Stack Technology

A fuel cell stack is the core electrochemical component of a PEM fuel cell system, where hydrogen and oxygen are converted into electricity through an electrochemical reaction. Arco Technologies develops advanced fuel cell stacks designed to provide stable performance under demanding operating conditions. It represents the heart of the power generation system, determining efficiency, reliability, durability, and overall performance.

Arco develops advanced Fuel Cell Stack solutions designed to deliver high power density, modularity, and long-term operational stability for a wide range of stationary and industrial applications.

What is a Fuel Cell Stack?

A Fuel Cell Stack is an assembly of multiple individual fuel cells connected in series to produce the required voltage and power output.

Each individual cell consists of:

  • Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA)
  • Bipolar Plates
  • Gas Distribution Layers
  • Sealing Components
  • Current Collectors

By combining dozens or hundreds of single cells into a single stack, electrical power can be scaled from small systems to large industrial installations while maintaining high efficiency and low emissions.

How It Works

Inside the stack, hydrogen is supplied to the anode while oxygen (or air) is supplied to the cathode.

The electrochemical reaction:

  • separates hydrogen into protons and electrons;
  • allows protons to pass through the proton exchange membrane;
  • forces electrons to flow through an external electrical circuit, generating usable electricity;
  • combines protons, electrons, and oxygen to produce pure water as the only emission.

Since no combustion takes place, the process is quiet, highly efficient, and environmentally friendly.
